The predecessorof the School Medicine of Panzhihua University is Panzhihua Health School,which was founded in December 1972 and named "Sichuan Dukou Health School"at that time. In August 1998, Panzhihua Health School was merged into PanzhihuaUniversity, and changed into Medical Department of Panzhihua University. In December2006, Medical Department was renamed the School Medicine.
Now theSchool Medicine offers one undergraduate specialty (clinical medicine) and threejunior college specialties (clinical medicine, medical laboratory technologyand optometry & ophthalmology technology). There are 1339 students in thecollege and 50 foreign students from Pakistan. There are 258 teachers,including 162 teachers with high-grade professional titles, 10 doctors and 49masters. The college has a medical laboratory, an anatomical laboratory and ananimal experimental center, which are three separate buildings. Their totalarea is 12 thousand square meters. The total value of teaching and experimentalequipment is more than 20 million Yuan. There are 30 clinical teaching andpractice hospitals in the province. There are two scientific research platformsin the college, which are “Panzhihua Medical Research Center” and “Panzhihua Instituteof Ethnic-Minority Medicine”. The achievements in scientific research areremarkable.
The education idea of theSchool Medicine is to cultivate knowledgeable and professional talents with excellent moral character and technique.The emphasis is to promote the post competence and physician’s professionalismof medical students. In teaching, teachers lay stress on developing students'comprehensive quality and practical operational ability. In 2017, the passingrate of the national qualification examination for medical practitionersreached 81.44%. It is seven percentage points higher than the national average level(74. 29%), and close to the level of domestic "211 universities"(83.37%). In 2018, the number of students who have passed the national postgraduate entranceexamination accounted for 30.14% of the total number of graduates. In thepast 3 years, 50 students have won national awards and 104 students have wonprovincial awards. There are 24 patents for inventions, and 40 papers have beenpublished. The employment rate of undergraduate students is over 97%. In May2018, clinical medicine became the first specialty in Panzhihua University tobe brought into the first batch of undergraduate enrollment.
the School Medicineis integrated into the "the Belt and Road" strategy, andpersistently adheres to opening and internationalizationof education. In November 2017, the School Medicine took the lead inPanzhihua University to enroll 50 foreign students from Pakistan. During the 13thFive-Year Plan, the number of foreign students in Southeast Asia will reachmore than 150. The internationalization of medical education will enter a newstage. the School Medicine has established cooperation withdomestic and foreign medical universities in teaching,scientific research and student communication. The foreign countries are Germany,Japan and Holland. The domestic medical universities include Macao JinghuNursing College, Sichuan University and Southwest Medical University.
